Cardenas gets Hologram Shadow

Title-chasing jockey Dick Cardenas' lead over Dane Nelson was extended not on the track, but at the Winchester Road offices of the Jamaica Racing Commission on September 4.

The Panamanian rider will start this weekend leading Nelson by three winners, not two, as some punters might have been led to believe in doing their countdown in the jockeys' race.

In most punters' minds, Cardenas was leading Nelson by one winner, 72-71, after riding an unanswered three-timer on Wednesday, September 10.

However, Cardenas was, indeed, on 73 wins. He was reinstated by the JRC for the August 16 disqualification of HOLOGRAM SHADOW.

No announcement of the reinstatement was released by the JRC in two publications of the official Track and Pools form book.

Therefore, when he rode another three-timer, September 13, ELVIRA, FORTUNEONEHUNDRED, and THIS IS IT, he moved to 76 wins.

Nelson took his tally to 73, with a double on the 10-race card - BIGBROWNGREYHOPE in the third event, 1820 metres, and BECKHAM in the fourth at a mile.

Cardenas' three-timer was for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta. The 2011 champion jockey enjoyed an armchair ride to win the opening event by nine and a half lengths aboard two-year-old debutant ELVIRA.

United States-bred FORTUNEONEHUNDRED came home two and a quarter lengths clear of PISCREAN ROCKET with Nelson in the seventh, an overnight allowance at 1100 metres.

DaCosta's down-in-class THIS IS IT predictably blasted in seven lengths clear under the Panamanian in the closing event for low-level claimers at 1000 metres straight.
