North vs North - KC, George's ready for round one Manning Cup clash

Robert Bailey, Star Writer

North Street rivals St George's College and Kingston College (KC), both undefeated to date, will lock horns for the sole leadership of Group A in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Manning Cup at Clovelly Park, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Separated by only 12 goals in the goal difference column, a win for either team, could have implications for not only qualification to the Walker Cup and LIME Super Cup, but also for the rest of the season as well.

St George's, who are among the top scoring teams in this year's competition, have netted 16 goals while conceding one. KC, on the other hand, have scored four goals, while conceding none.

KC holds the slight advantage entering today's encounter after defeating St George's 1-0 in the Roper Cup competition last month.

However, the Lenworth 'Teacher' Hyde-coached KC, will be without the services of inspirational goalkeeper and captain Akim Lawman, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season, with a knee injury.

Optimistic team's chances

Despite this, Hyde said he is very optimistic about his team's chances.

"I am expecting a good game from my team," said Hyde.

"We are playing at home and so I expect us to come out and play some good football."

He added that his team has been playing well this season, but they will have to try and stop the St George's team from playing their normal game.

"They are a good team, with excellent players and so we just have to be vigilant and be disciplined throughout the entire game," Hyde said.

On the other hand, St George's assistant coach, Marcel Gayle, is cautiously optimistic about his team's chances.

"We are looking forward to go out there to play our brand and our style of football," said Gayle. "We are not taking anything for granted and so we are going out there to give our best and hopefully, we will get all three points." Gayle added: "It is a top-of-the-table clash and so getting all three points will be good for us going forward, but we just want to go out there and play good football. In the group's other game Campion College will entertain Waterford at Campion.
