'Chicken-gunman' deh pon the loose!

Mi no know whether fi spray, cover up or run from di new 'chicken-gunman' dem weh deh pon the loose!

It come in like the mosquito dem a fly wid bullet-proof and fog-proof vest because dem out and bad and a wreak havoc on the nation! The increase in the number of cases of chik-V has also created uneasiness among us, and right now most people know at least know one person who have it! It has become quite worrisome because the numbers that the authority is putting out don't seem to be coinciding with the number of affected and infected people.

It seems to me that more needs to be done because the fogging alone is not working. Mi no know if dah breed a mosquito yah a tek some vitamin against the fog, but it woulda almost seem like the fogging a give dem more strength and resilience!

certain temperature

Is it that 'chickencumtekme' is spreading as rapidly as many are positing, or is it that persons are exaggerating the numbers to create panic? From my readings and research, chikungunya has many symptoms resembling the flu: chronic joint pain, fever and fatigue. However, based on what a doctor told me, the fever has to be of a certain temperature (1020F) and there has to be a test conducted in order to properly diagnose the 'chicken-gunman'.

However, some people waa inna di red, so as dem feel a likkle pain, dem a bawl out fi chikungunya! Nuff a dem want it so til dem all a call it down on themselves like a something fi celebrate! When some are quizzed as to the symptoms and diagnosis, many have not even stepped into a doctor's office! Dem diagnose themself and then start to spread seh dem have it.

This virus, though, is of national concern and urgency, and I think an aggressive eradication campaign needs to get under way. The 'lay-lay' business naa go work, because the mosquitoes are working, working, working. There needs to be a more proactive approach because dem virus yah anno sumting fi ramp wid, especially when dengue and influenza are common. The health ministry needs to inundate the place wid facts and information about chikungunya so that communities can help protect themselves by being proactive and not reactive.

human capital

To how the chik-V tun up loud all dance mi hear seh dem mek offa it! But based pon what me get fi understan, when it tek yuh, you can't even move a muscle. In a time where human capital and resources are integral to the building of our country, we need to ensure that all that needs to be done and all that can be done is being done to protect the nation.

I'm distressed that the test to diagnose chik-V has to be done outside of our shores, and mi no like that. Why don't we have our own proper facility to do testing? The virus deh massive, and when it lick, it cramp and paralyse yuh!

In the meantime, while the bigga heads dem a organise themselves, let us all do what we can in our homes and communities to ensure they are chik-V free. Be on the look out fi all mosquitoes and no trust none a dem! Whether dem bite a day or night, no trust none a dem!!
