January 22, 2014 will always be remembered as the day a double dose of joy came into the lives of Jasmine and Steven White.

It was the day the couple, from Johnnie Hill in Clarendon, was blessed with twin boys, Alex and Trey, now both eight months old.

"Kids are a source of happiness in parents' lives, and having two at once just double the joy. Since the birth of Alex and Trey, we are a far happier family," the proud mother declared to The Star's Life & Times in a recent interview.

According to Jasmine, her pregnancy was a delightful nine months for she and her husband. However, Steven was somewhat doubtful and thought it was a joke when told of the ultrasound that confirmed she was carrying twins. Nevertheless when they were born, the happy dad was overcome with joy.

"Both sides of our families have twins, but never in our wildest dreams did we expect to have twins of our own. Trey and Alex have brought so much joy to our lives. When they were born, my husband cried tears of joy," the boys' mother recalled.

Ultimate test

She revealed that Steven's grandmother gave birth to twins and an aunt of his followed that up with triplets. Her side of the family also gave birth to multiple sets of twins. One aunt gave birth to not one, but two pairs.

However, with the enormous joy that the boys bring to the White family, Jasmine conceded that the additions to the household are the ultimate test of motherhood. It is a test, she insisted, that requires an abundance of patience, tolerance and love - in caring for an elder daughter, her husband and the twins, who she describes as having "varying personalities".

"With the thrills come the responsibilities. It's a big job taking care of two babies, my daughter, Steven and making sure that the house is properly run," she said.

Jasmine said the boys are "super babies", with Alex being the more lively and playful of the two, while Trey is more reserved. Despite their tiny frames, she warned that whenever either, or both, want to sleep or are hungry, they always create somewhat of a riot in the house.
