A 14-year-old boy who tried to rape his 48-year-old aunt, who is believed to be mentally ill, has been taken into custody, THE STAR understands.

The incident, which is reported to have happened about 6:30 p.m. last Friday in a deep rural St Catherine community, has since caused quite a stir.

THE STAR understands that the 14-year-old went to visit his 48-year-old aunt and after she came out of the shower allegedly tried to fight her for sex.

"Him hold her down and put all him finger in her vagina and her bottom. Him never get through or him never bother because she was seeing her menses, that's why," a source close to the investigation of the situation revealed.

When asked if the teen was suffering from a mental illness, the source could not confirm and instead stated that it was the aunt who had the illness.

"The auntie not too 100 either," he said.

The teen has since been taken into a detention centre for juveniles, and will likely be charged with attempted rape, indecent assault and grievous sexual assault.

The police have confirmed the incident and the teen's detention.
