NO BAIL FOR ALLEGED ROBBER
A man accused of attempting to rob a police officer and his female companion was further remanded when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Charged with assault with intent to rob is 22-year-old Clive Tomlinson of a Rockfort, Kingston address. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Allegations are that on September 3, approximately 5:35 p.m. near the Trafalgar Road and Knutsford Boulevard intersection in Kingston, Tomlinson is believed to have wielded a knife with the intent to rob, using it to stab at the complainant who was, unbeknown to him, a police officer. In defending himself, the officer allegedly held on to his firearm, still seated in its holster, in an attempt to deter the accused.

gunshot wounds

It is believed that Tomlinson was shot as he fled.

The court heard that police personnel, acting on information, went to the University Hospital of the West Indies and discovered the accused suffering from gunshot wounds.

It is believed that upon admitting himself to hospital, Tomlinson gave a fictitious name to hospital personnel, supplying a presumably concocted story of being injured in a drive-by shooting in Arnett Gardens in Kingston.

Tomlinson's attorney told the court that her client insists that it was the police officer who made attempts to attack him.

"The policeman just get up and attack this man for nothing at all?" asked Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.

Subsequently, the sitting magistrate ordered Tomlinson further remanded until today when he is to reappear for trial. A fingerprint order was also made against him.
