AFTER losing the title for the first time a year ago, the University of West Indies (UWI) regained it on Saturday's fifth staging of the UWI/UTech Games, as they won their fourth title in five years.

UWI's four wins came in netball, male football, female volleyball and male basketball. UTech got their wins in cricket, rugby and female football.

The Games, which were well supported, saw UTech taking the lead after a pulsating last-ball four-wicket win over their opponents in the T20 cricket match. UWI batted first and they could only muster 115 all out off 19.1 overs. Their skipper Oshane Walters top scored with 23, while Chris Powell, and Malcom Campbell supported him with 17. Malcolm Whyte took three for 41, Delbert Gayle, two for 12, and Ralston Levy, two for 13 were the top wicket takers for the home team.

The UWI team drew level after holding off their opponents for a win in netball, to continue their dominance over their opponents in the five years of competition. With several present and former National Senior representatives on show the vociferous crowd was treated with some good netball. The UWI team consisted of Nadine Bryan, Malysha Kelly and Tristina Harwood, while UTech had Shanice Beckford, Khadijah Williams and Althea Byfield.

With the overall scores being tied at 1-1 after two sports, it was the defending champions, UTech that took the lead after a close 15-14 win over their opponents in Rugby. Once again the tie was even as the UWI females won the volleyball game for a 2-2 overall score.

The home team took the lead after the male volleyball team won 3-2 and it came down to both football matches to decide the outcome. UTech surprised their opponents 1-0 in female football to make things 3-3 before UWI sealed the overall title with a 2-0 win in the male football.
