Trelawny woman charged with fraud
The Area One Fraud Squad last Friday arrested and charged 34-year-old Mitzie Lamont of Jackson Town, Trelawny, with conspiracy to defraud and four counts of obtaining money by false pretence after she allegedly told them she could secure work for them.

Reports from the Falmouth police are that between November 2013 and January of this year, Lamont allegedly told persons that she operated an overseas work programme for Canada. Individuals were asked to submit the sum of $80,000 through a remittance agency. However, persons who submitted the money were unable to leave the island on the scheduled departure date.

A report was made to the police and an investigation launched by the Area 1 Fraud Squad. Lamont was subsequently arrested.

She is to appear in the Falmouth Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
