This weekend marks the first of at least two double-headers in the Red Stripe Premier League to be held at the National Stadium. This as title sponsors Red Stripe initiate the thrust to inject greater interest and excitement in the league.

As part of its new five-year deal estimated to worth approximately $800 million, the brewers have been working with the Premier League Clubs Association to enhance the football experience for fans by, among other things, developing players and improving playing surfaces. This latest move is yet another step in that direction.

"We will be introducing double-headers at the National Stadium to inject energy and excitement throughout the league," said Red Stripe Brand Manager, Erin Mitchell.

Better pitch

"With the better pitch surface of the National Stadium, we are sure we will have a heightened level of play from the RSPL teams. Rivoli versus Barbican and Harbour View versus Boys Town will be the first clubs to show off for the fans in this new setting."

Mitchell revealed that only two double headers have been booked for the National Stadium so far, but venues in western Jamaica are being considered to get fans of teams in rural Jamaica to participate in the double-header activities. The next double-header will be on Heroes' Day, Monday, October 20, featuring Arnett Gardens vs Cavalier and Tivoli Gardens vs Boys Town. Activities will start at 4 p.m., with kick-off for the first match at 6:30 p.m.
