Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

The St James man accused of stabbing his brother to death during an altercation in 2013, will undergo preliminary examination when he makes his next appearance in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on November 27.

Kadian Martin, of a Norwood address, who is charged for the murder of his brother, Dennis Martin, had his bail extended when he appeared in court on Wednesday, after presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie was told that the defendant's case file was ready.

Allegations are that on November 1, 2013, the brothers had a dispute, during which the now-deceased armed himself with a machete and the accused man armed himself with a knife. During the fight, the court heard, the accused Martin stabbed his brother twice in the chest and the brother was later pronounced dead at hospital.

"Is the file ready?" RM Tie asked clerk of the court Natalie Malcolm, when the case was mentioned on Wednesday.

"The post-mortem report is now in, and we are now ready for a prelim date ... . We are looking at six witnesses (for the prosecution)," Malcolm replied.

RM Tie subsequently set the case to be heard on November 27.

"You are to return on November 27, your bail is extended until then, and the officer is bound over," the magistrate told Martin.
