Bail extended for alleged St James murderer

WESTERN BUREAU:

The St James man accused of killing his girlfriend and hiding her body under banana leaves in his yard in May, had his bail extended to December 17 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Neville Thompson, who is of a Cambridge address, and who is charged with the murder of Simone Grossett, had his bail extended after the court was told that the prosecution's case file was not ready.

The allegations are that on May 2, Thompson and Grossett were at the accused man's home in Cambridge, when they got into a dispute. Sometime afterward, Thompson went to the police station and filed a missing person's report for Grossett.

Several stab wounds

However, the police, acting on information went to Thompson's house, where a search of the premises revealed Grossett's body, with several stab wounds, hidden under banana leaves near a fowl coop. Thompson was subsequently arrested and charged.

On Wednesday, clerk of the court Natalie Malcolm told Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie that one document had been added to the case file, but another document was outstanding.

"In respect of this matter, the post-mortem report is here, but the forensic certificate is still outstanding. We are asking for a December date (to complete the file)," said Malcolm.

The case was subsequently set for mention on December 17.
