Potcheen a cinch

POTCHEEN was impressive when putting away stablemate UPPA TUNE at 1300 metres, September 20, and should again stamp his class by landing tomorrow's None Such Sprint, though going a half furlong shorter.

Taking orders from Robert Pearson, POTCHEEN put in a business-like performance for his new trainer, cruising past TRADITIONAL PRINCE three furlongs out and attacking speedy UPPA TUNE off the home turn.

Asked to have a go at his United States-bred stablemate early in the straight, POTCHEEN changed gears and collared UPPA TUNE a furlong and a half out before lengthening his strides, and pulling off for a comfortable-enough win.

UPPA TUNE returns four pounds lighter with Paul Francis replacing Richard Mitchell. Though the distance is shorter, the ease with which POTCHEEN effortlessly caught UPPA TUNE, two furlongs out, suggests six furlongs should hold no terrors for the local-bred five-year-old.

Bar EASTWOOD and ALL CORRECT, both jumping two classes to ensure the race is run, the other four runners completing tomorrow's line-up were beaten by POTCHEEN on September 20.

Walker seems poised to have his best day back in the saddle since returning from Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Canada, a possible four-timer - RAJA SARANGI, STOP A GAP, BOY WONDER and POTCHEEN.

The four-time champion jockey should open the 10-race card with a quick double, RAJA SARANGI in the opening event at 1500 metres and STOP A GAP in the second.

RAJA SARANGI put in another good performance with the visor fitted, finishing on ALSO CORRECT's heels in his last two races. He was third on September 27 when LOCKED AND LOADED beat ALL CORRECT at 1400 metres. Last Saturday, RAJA SARANGI chased home ALSO CORRECT and won at 1300 metres.

STOP A GAP is another live ride for Walker, having got the better of CLASSIC BEAU when both lost to DEO VOLENTE at 1400 metres on September 10.

STOP A GAP easily won the battle for second behind out-of-class DEO VOLENTE, and enjoys a six-pound weight swing on CLASSIC BEAU, who reports four pounds heavier for the rematch after getting two pounds when they last met.

BOY WONDER hasn't raced since February when he injured himself in his stall. The chestnut colt missed the classic season, but has returned to work well and should romp home in the fourth at 1100 metres. He beat stablemate POTCHEEN in a four-furlong gallop Sunday morning.
