Detectives make big bust

Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter

Police investigators attached to the St Andrew North Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) yesterday seized a large quantity of electronic devices during an operation in the division. The police went to premises located on Tarrant Drive in the Kingston 10 area and recovered eight laptops of various brands; six external storage devices, eight tablets, two iPods, two iPads, four high-end cell phones, 26 thumb drives, 27 cell phone chargers and 13 laptop chargers. These items are believed to have been stolen.

One woman, said to be a computer technician, was the only occupant of the premises. She was arrested and taken into custody on reasonable suspicion of receiving stolen property. One complainant in the incident positively identified one of the stolen items.

Another set of operations conducted within the St Andrew North Division and in St Thomas on October 6 and 11 also resulted in the arrest of four men and a woman from Whitehall Avenue, Kingston 8. They were arrested after laptops, iPods, iPads and cell phones stolen or suspected to have been stolen were allegedly found in their possession.

Trend

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Superintendent in charge of Crime in the St Andrew North Division, Marvin Brooks, said there appears to be a trend in the theft of electronic devices. However, the police are enforcing some proactive initiatives that are yielding results.

The police are asking the victims of crimes involving electronic devices which were stolen or robbed to contact the Constant Spring Criminal Investigations Branch at 9241435 or 9250214 for viewing. Persons are also being asked to come with their IMEI number for the cell phones, laptops and computers.
