WESTERN BUREAU: A St James man who admitted to robbing a teenager of her Samsung cellular phone at knifepoint had his sentencing put off until October 30 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Alex Johnson, of a Montego Bay address, had previously pleaded guilty to robbery with aggravation, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was remanded in police custody, as his social enquiry report, which was needed for his sentencing, was not ready.

The allegations are that on September 14, the complainant was walking along Union Street in Montego Bay with her phone in her hand when Johnson approached her and grabbed the phone.

The complainant struggled with Johnson for the phone, and the accused man pulled out a knife and inflicted an injury to the teenager's side before running off. The complainant reported the matter to an off-duty police officer, following which Johnson was accosted along Humber Street and subsequently taken to the Barnett Street Police Station, where he was arrested and charged.

"The probation report (social enquiry report) is still outstanding," Clerk of the Court Reginald England told presiding Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie when the case was mentioned on Friday.

"When can they (probation office) get it ready?" asked Resident Magistrate Tie. "Another two weeks," said England. Resident Magistrate Tie subsequently ordered Johnson to be further remanded until October 30.
