A St Elizabeth woman accused of stabbing another woman, she believes to be her matie, in the neck, was remanded when she appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Jessica Golding from Junction is accused of stabbing the woman, who lives at her home as she is her common-law husband's tenant, following a recent altercation at the house.

Resident Magistrate Sonya Wint-Blair heard that Golding entered the room of the complainant, confronted and accused her of having an affair with her common-law husband.

The court heard that an altercation developed and it is further alleged that Golding used a knife to stab the woman in the neck and chest.

The police were called and the complainant, who by this time had ran out of the house and collapsed in the yard, was taken to the hospital while Golding was arrested and charged.

Golding told the court that the incident did not happen in the complainant's room as stated in the allegations. She explained that it was the complainant who first attacked her and said she was just defending herself.

Neither the complainant nor the comon-law husband were present at court on Wednesday. Golding is set to reappear in court on November 12.
