Pre-season favourites St Catherine stay perfect

Pre-season favourites St Catherine High senior netball team ended the preliminary round of the Urban ISSA Schoolgirl Netball competition unbeaten, on Wednesday, after picking up their sixth consecutive win after battling to a 24-16 win over a vastly improved Tarrant High.

The team ended on top of Group A with 18 points.

It was double victory for the St Catherine team over their opponents, as earlier the juniors had an easy 26-11 win.

Camperdown and St Jago High also ended the preliminary round of the competition in fine style after both schools picked up double wins in their groups. Camperdown juniors first had an impressive 29-6 in their Group D encounter against St Andrew Technical, before the seniors recorded a 33-22 win.

After mixed results earlier in the competition, St Jago ended their Group B campaign in fine style after their juniors carved out a close 16-14 win over Merlegrove before the seniors cruised to a 31-20 win.

In two other senior encounters on the day, St Andrew High edged out Alpha 26, while Edith Dalton James blew away Clan Carthy High 26-10.

Alpha turned the tables on St Andrew High in Junior action, with a 22-11 win, while it was a rare win for former champions, Dunoon High, after stopping Holy Trinity 25-21.

The final set of matches in the preliminary stage of the competition will come today with action in Group B, E and F.
