Coach of Jamaica's Under-17 team Andrew Edwards has strongly rejected criticism of his team's style of play after the young Reggae Boyz qualified for the final round of the CONCACAF Youth Under-17 qualifiers.

Despite getting to the final of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) tournament, the team was beaten by 2-0 by Haiti, with Edward's direct style of play coming in for criticism. The coach, however, had nothing but high commendations for the team and hailed their performance as outstanding.

"Once we prepare well, we will do well," Edwards told Star Sports.

"Our style of play is clear, no matter what others think," he added.

"We are working to have the boys adapt to our style, despite the negative perception that certain media reports have cast on us," Edwards said. The coach flatly rejected suggestions the team play a 'kick and rush game.'

Edwards credited notable players, Nicholas Nelson who won the Golden Boot award at the tournament courtesy of his six goals scored in four games.

"He scored spectacular goals for his team, he uses both feet well and is a reliable player," the coach said. Edwards added that Nelson is a key part of the team's plans going forward.

"He has a few weaknesses, but we will work on them and have him ready to continue to deliver for us."
