Bass Odyssey defeats Richie Feelings

CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer

After all rounds in The STAR organised Magnum All-Star Face-Off competition were complete last Thursday, the iconic sound system Bass Odyssey had outclassed Richie Feelings in an exciting matchup.

Richie Feelings, who lost the coin toss and was sent to juggle first, started on a war note by playing several hard hitting singles from Daseca's Anger Management rhythm. Some of the songs which received favourable responses from the audience included Mavado's Real McCoy, Full Clip by Busy Signal and Bounty Killer's Gun Nuh Stick. The talkative DJ surely gave his best effort, however, this week he opted to use a DJ to mix his songs and the two appeared lack chemistry.

Bass Odyssey was next, however, before starting his set the selector stated that Riche Feelings was ignorant to sound clashing. "Don't bias people, if we guh hard give wi di forward," he said and started with Iyara's dub version of John Legend's All Of Me.

Bass Odyssey proceeded to inflict some lethal musical blows to Richie Feelings by playing dub-plates during the juggling round.

"Freak 45 nuh play inna clash. Fat boy a going to buy yu a thread mill," the selector said and played dub plates from Super Beagle, Beenie Man, Jah Cure, Buju Banton and Mavado.

True reputation

By this time, the audience was fully in Bass Odyssey's corner and it was already clear who the winner of the round was. Therefore when Bass Odyssey concluded their juggling round with Gage's Throat dub-plate style, it was simply an act of putting a nail in Richie Feeling's coffin.

By no surprise the judges awarded the round to Bass Odyssey, stating that they performance mirrored the sound system's true reputation for demolishing its opponents.

The next round was challenge based and both DJs were encouraged to play gospel songs from Jamaican artistes. Richie Feelings was first once again and he started with Amazing Grace by Sanchez.

On-stage gimmicks

"Mi nah diss Bass Odyssey because is a sound wey mi rate. But all a who nuh like dutty Satan push up yu hand," he then played I Don't Want Satan to be my Friend by Glen Graham and Can't Even Walk by Grace Thrillers.

Bass Odyssey replied with some rather uptempo gospel songs, and along with some on-stage gimmicks they managed to win the round as well.

Wearing a preacher's gown and pretending to read a Bible, Bass Odyssey's selector said; "Glory, Richie Feelings can't play gospel. All a who rate God Almighty duh suh." He then played Hear My Cry Oh Lord among the others.

Richie Feelings hoping his luck would turn around in the 45 round, started with Bounty Killer's Lodge. The response was favourable and he then played another Bounty Killer receiving a similar response along with other songs.

Bass Odyssey responded with Bounty Killer's Dead This Time, and two Super Cat selections before ending the round which saw them again being crowned the winner.

Richie Feelings seemed to be winning nothing on the night and again he lost the coin toss to Bass Odyssey who sent him to play the first dub-plate in the Dub-for-Dub round.

Talkative persona

The round was well contested with both sides starting of with 'foundation artistes' and later some newer ones. At one point Richie Feelings seemed to be taking over the round but Bass Odyssey's selector talked his way back by taking jabs at Richie Feelings talkative persona on the Talk Yu Mind series.

After a ding dong battle, the judges awarded the round to Bass Odyssey.

Tonight's celebrity clashes will feature Tanto Blacks and Big Pop vs L.A Lewis and Poor and Boasy. As well as Jenny Jenny vs DJ Nas. The sound clash will feature The Uncontainables Vs Fire Links. The event will be hosted by Nuffy. Live streaming outside of Jamaica can be viewed at www.jamaica-star.com.
