The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into yesterday morning's suspected poisoning of a woman and a man in Horizon Park, St Elizabeth.

The woman, identified as Kerry-Ann Powell, has since died.

The man, Obrien Sinclair, was injured.

It is alleged that yesterday morning, a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and two civilian accomplices entered the home of Sinclair with a poisonous substance.

Preliminary checks suggest that the substance is an insecticide called Lannate.

INDECOM says a scientific test will be carried out to prove the nature of the substance.

The substance was allegedly used to douse both Sinclair and Powell.

Powell later died.

The implicated cop and the two civilian accomplices have been taken into police custody.

The matter is being treated as a joint investigation between the JCF and INDECOM.

According to INDECOM, the Victim Support Unit and the Child Development Agency are also involved in the investigation as Powell's children were observed wandering the streets in their night gowns near their home.

The children were picked up by residents and taken to a relative.
