A man accused of forging a motor vehicle insurance cover note was fined when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with forgery, possession of forged documents, uttering forged documents and conspiracy to deceive is Robert Cuff who pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Crown alleged that on the day of the incident, the accused showed a bogus cover note to the police. When it was revealed that the document was in fact fraudulent, the accused was subsequently arrested and charged.

"Any reason why you shouldn't go to prison for this?" quizzed Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.

"Mi never know say that the documents was fraud," Cuff replied.

Cuff explained that he had received the document from a friend and had no prior knowledge that it was produced fraudulently.

"You can be fined up to a million dollars for the offence!" RM Pusey admonished.

The sitting magistrate ordered the accused man to pay a fine of $20,000 or serve six months in prison for forgery; pay $40,000 or face six months' imprisonment for possession of forged documents; pay $30,000 or serve six months for uttering forged documents, and had no evidence offered against him on the conspiracy to deceive charge.
