After entering the CB Pan Chicken Championship six times, with three regional second-place finish, Hanover-native Sitrena Gilling finally won the top prize on Sunday.

The 53-year-old could hardly stand upon hearing the announcement and had to be supported. For several seconds she uttered 'Thank You Jesus', as she seemed on the verge of tears.

"I feel great. I feel like I don't want to sleep for the rest of the night as tired as I am. I feel like God chose me tonight," Gilling said.

More than 40,000 persons gathered on the Kingston Waterfront to bear witness. The new champion walked away with $300,000 in cash from CB Chicken, a $250,000 business development grant from Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), a Samsung S5 cellular phone from Digicel, one year's supply of CB Chicken, one year's supply of Grace Tomato Ketchup, plus gift packages from National Bakery and other sponsors.

Second-place winner, Natalie Sill and third-place Carlton Jobson from Clarendon received $150,000 and $75,000, respectively, along with business grants, gift baskets and products.

The 2014 CB Pan Chicken Championship was non-stop excitement from noon to well after 9 p.m. MC Pretty Boy Floyd led the day's activities with Miss Kitty hosting the evening performances of Kevin Downswell, Konshens and Sizzla.

Revelling in the success of the event's ninth season, Alicia Bogues, CB Chicken brand manager and chief architect of the championship, congratulated all the finalists and thanked attendees for their continued support.
