Blak Ryno sporting 'grills'

Blak Ryno

Dancehall artiste Blak Ryno has tweaked his image, opting to wear a 'grill' over his teeth.

"The fans dem love the new image, the grills and ting ah bling, and the girls dem ah leave nuff comments on my Instagram page about it. The grills shot!" an enthusiastic Ryno said.

In hip hop culture, a grill (also front or golds) is a type of jewellery worn over the teeth. Grills are made of metal and are, generally, removable. They were first worn by hip hop artists in the early 1980s, and upgraded during the 90s in New York City, but they became more widely popular during the mid-2000s, due to the rise of Southern hip hop rap and the more mainstream pop-culture status hip hop attained.

"Next, mi ah go tattoo mi eyeball," Ryno joked.

Jokes aside, there is the serious business of his upcoming clash at Sting 2014, at Jamworld Entertainment Centre in Portmore. Last year, Blak Ryno beat Kiprich lyrically. This year, he plans to up the ante.

"Mi ah go kill Tommy Lee, Alkaline, Gage, the bandsman, the selector dem, the police weh ah run security, Heavy D and all Laing. Mi ah go kill everything," he said.
