Taylor-less Jamaica take on Trinidad & Tobago

Despite having to do without fast-bowler Jerome Taylor and batsman Jermaine Blackwood, Jamaica Franchise coach, Junior Bennett, believes the team has a good chance of getting a positive result against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in their third-round WICB Professional Four-day League clash at Queen's Park Oval.

The matchup, set to get under way today, will see Jamaica, already without top players, batsmen Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, missing the services of Taylor and Blackwood, due to West Indies Test duties.

Taylor and Cottrell, who were both a part of the Jamaica squad that drew against Barbados last weekend, are slated to leave the Caribbean this weekend for South Africa with the West Indies Test team.

"In cricket, you are always going to have players replacing players for different reasons," cited Bennett.

"It is the responsibility, however, of the squad selected to get the job done, and I think the squad we have can give a good account of themselves."

first call-up

Jamaica, third in the points table on 19 points, one behind the Trinidadians, recently added West Indies fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell and batsman Horace Miller to their line-up for the clash.

The left-handed Cottrell, who is also slated to go to South Africa, is set to play, among other things, to assess his readiness for international cricket.

This is after he had sustained a hamstring injury with West Indies 'A' on their tour of Sri Lanka last month.

Miller, in the meanwhile, who struggled for form last season, gets his first call-up of the season.

"We have played two round of matches so far winning one against the Windwards, and a no result in the other against Barbados, after losing three and a half days to rain," Bennett explained.

"We have, however, put that (rain-affected) match behind us, and have now turned our attention to Trinidad, which is a very important fixture for us.

He added: "It should be a very tough match, but we are up to the challenge, as we want to gather as much points as possible on the road."
