JTTA stages first local classic

National table tennis star Yvonne Foster is among more than 20 entrants down to compete in Saturday's Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) Classic at the Excelsior High School Auditorium, starting at 9 a.m.

The event will be the first staged on local soil and will feature special exhibition matches between Russian Consul Andrey Dryakin and Erik Grimas of the Embassy of Panama playing against the national women's team of Foster, Dadrian Lewis, and Shenique Clare.

The tournament will feature an Open section, with males and females competing against each other. The winner will walk away with $30,000, with $20,000 and $10,000 going to second and third places, respectively.

Other categories to be contested will be girls and boys Under-9, Under-13, Under-15, Under-18, Under-19, and Under-21.
