Residents beat alleged sex offender

Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter

Residents of a St Andrew community took matters into their own hands in the wee hours of Monday morning by beating a teen who allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman he claimed was his 'mate'.

The teenager, believed to be between the ages of 14 and 17 years old, went into the house of a woman where he tried to sexually assault her. The woman, who was asleep, quickly awoke and raised an alarm.

"He tried to hold the woman down. He claimed the woman and he were in a relationship, but the woman didn't know anything of that," said a resident of the Kingston 8 community where the incident reportedly took place.

After the alarm was raised, residents set upon the teen and gave him a fine trouncing.

When The STAR arrived in the community, several persons milling around were tight-lipped regarding the incident. However, our news team was told that, when anything happens in the community, the residents resolve things in their own way.

When asked if the teen was mentally ill, a male resident said that he was not.

When the Constant Spring Police was contacted to confirm if any report was made to the police regarding this incident, a sergeant said he was not aware of such an occurrence.
