Renowned justice of the peace facing conviction

André Williams, STAR Writer

A renowned justice of the peace (JP) is facing possible conviction for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm after the female complainant was successful in having a judge hear damning allegations earlier this week during a court sitting.

Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that the incident, which is allegedly more than a year old, failed to reach the courts seemingly because of the influence of the St Andrew-based JP, who it is said works closely with several police personnel throughout the division.

Further reports are that he has been formally slapped with assault charges after the much younger female complainant reportedly sustained multiple injuries, which include a broken nose, broken jawbone and erupted ear drum.

Though it was not identified what triggered the attack, THE WEEKEND STAR gathered that high profile attorneys are representing both the defendant and the complainant.

The matter should officially appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court soon after a senior magistrate ruled that the investigating officer in the matter prepare the file or court forthwith.

THE WEEKEND STAR was reliably informed that a report was made to the St Andrew North police about the assault following which an investigation was launched.

However, it was not until the attention of the commissioner of police was sought recently, that things began to take shape and the matter became relevant again.

Our news team was also told that someone, after hearing of the complainant's dilemma in obtaining justice, encouraged her to seek the assistance of a no-nonsense attorney.
