Woman charged with larceny gets bail extension

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James woman who reportedly fleeced $140,000 from her employer and then changed company records to hide the deed, had her bail extended when she appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Kimberly Lewis is charged with larceny as a servant and false declaration of accounts. Her case has been set for mention on February 2.

The allegations are that, in August 2014, Lewis - who at the time was employed to Cornwall Communication Ltd, in Montego Bay - took $140,000 from the company and then falsified the company's computer software to reflect an incorrect total on the company's balance sheet.

"Do you have a lawyer, ma'am?" Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie asked Lewis on Tuesday.

"No, miss," Lewis replied.

The court was also told that the prosecution's case file was not complete, as certain documents needed from the complainant's computer were outstanding.

"We are not ready to set a trial date in this matter, as all the paperwork is not ready. come back here on February 2. your bail is extended until then," RM Tie told the defendant.
