The one-day athletics relay carnival held at the end of February each year has been renamed the Gibson McCook Relays, in honour of its founder, Neville 'Teddy' McCook, who died in 2013 after a long battle with cancer.

McCook, who was president of the North America, Central America, and Caribbean Area Association (NACAC) and International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Area Representative at the time of his death, helped found the meet, which was named the Gibson Relays, in honour of Kingston College's founding principal, Anglican bishop, Percival Gibson.

McCook was also a former president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (now Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association)

The 39th staging of the meet, which was launched yesterday at The Knutsford Court Hotel in Kingston, is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, at the National Stadium.

Two new championship events have been added to the roster - class two boys and class two girls 4x100m, bringing to 10, the number of championship races.
