Kirk Brown and Holmwood Technical Shaneike Watson were impressive winners at Wednesday's Jamaica Administrative Athletics Association (JAAA) National Cross Country Trials at GC Foster College.

The race was used to select Jamaica's team's to next month's North America Central America and Caribbean Area Championships to be held in Colombia.

In the female event for junior athletes, runners completed three loops for 4 kilometres and it was very close going. Watson had a narrow lead over the Hydel High pair of Monifa Green and Zennon Kerr, with Mavis Bank High's, Crystal Bailey just behind.

Watson , who has been unbeaten on the road this season, pulled away from her rivals to score a runaway win, stopping the clock at 14 minutes 07.14 seconds.

Hydel athletes occupied second, fourth, and fifth positions. Kerr clocked 14:52.15 for the runner-up spot, ahead of Brown third in 14:54.81.

Brown showed that he is one of the best in the country, competing in the senior male 8K event, easily winning in 25:12.96.

Last year's junior champion, Obrien Fritz, competing among seniors for the first time, finished second in 25:26.27. Damion Bent had to settle for third in 25:31.64.

Mavis Bank High's Garfield Gordon won the junior 6K in 19:19.40. St Jago students took the next two spots, Talito Green second in 19:21.38, ahead of Keenan Lawrence third in 19:27.88.

Only two competitors participated in the senior women's 6K and GC Foster College's Danielle James came out on top in 2:23.84,ahead of Church Teacher's College, Jlirt Dinnal in 24:56.27.
