Accused murderer gets new bail conditions

Launtia Cuff, Star Writer

A St Elizabeth man was on Tuesday restored to bail when he appeared in the Balaclava Resident Magistrate's Court for murder. The allegations are that on August 7, 2012, Jermaine Thompson, who is from Carisbrook, had a dispute with a 17-year-old boy during which a knife was used to stab the teen causing his death.

Thompson was offered and had taken up bail which had been set at $200,000. However, at his last court appearance on January 27, witnesses said that Thompson had threatened them showing gun fingers and drawing his hand across his neck in a cutting motion. His bail was subsequently revoked.

Resident Magistrate Chester Crooks said he would only reconsider the question of bail if Thompson would relocate.

Under his new bail conditions, Thompson will reside in Hellshire Heights, Portmore, St Catherine, where he will report to the Greater Portmore Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

He was ordered not to return to Carisbrook and was warned against any further interference with any of the witnesses or their family members.
