Peoples Opinion

Recently, a number of persons called for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader, Andrew Holness, to resign, following the ruling by the courts that his demand for Arthur Williams and Dr Christopher Tufton to sign resignation letters was unconstitutional.

A few weeks ago, it was brought to light by the Constitutional Court that the JLP leader was wrong when he used pre-signed, undated, resignation letters to remove two of the Opposition Senators, Dr Christopher Tufton and Arthur Williams, from the Upper House.

In light of this revelation, persons arguing that Holness should resign include noted political historian Troy Caine and journalist Cliff Hughes.

According to the political historian, Holness' position as Opposition Leader has been compromised by his actions, which breached the Constitution.

This sentiment was also shared by Hughes. Speaking on a radio programme recently, Hughes believed that after Holness found himself at odds with the Constitution he should resign among other things.

Holness would later file an appeal against the ruling by the Constitutional Court.

People's Opinion took to the streets of Kingston and found Charlene Crump, who believes that regardless of Holness' actions, he still should not resign.

"No. I don't think he should resign. I think he is one of the best persons in the Jamaica Labour Party. He has done so much for this country and I do not think he has been given enough time to show how much more he can do.

"He shouldn't resign. Everybody makes mistakes. It is unfortunate that he did, but I still don't think he should resign," she said.

Stay tuned for next week's segment of the People's Opinion, where the public voice their sentiments on varying topical issues.
