Drug mule gets lengthy jail time for cocaine

A man who was forced to relieve himself of cocaine pellets he had ingested, while trying to leave the island recently was imprisoned on Friday when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Charged with possession of, dealing in, taking steps to export and conspiracy to export cocaine is Frederick Samuels.

He pleaded guilty to all the charges.

The court heard that Samuels had to be taken from the airport to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) where he passed out four ounces of the drug.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey fined Samuels, $30,000 or six months for possession, $40,000 or six months for dealing, 12 months plus $100,000 for taking steps to export cocaine and 12 months' imprisonment for conspiring.

If the fines are not paid, then the sentences for the fines are to run concurrently, but consecutively to the conspiracy sentence.
