Former KC star McLeod lights up SEC meet

JAMAICA'S Remona Burchell and Omar McLeod were in fantastic form yesterday at the South Eastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Championships at the University of Kentucky on Saturday.

Both athletes who remained unbeaten in their events this season step leading collegiate times.

Burchell , formerly of Herbert Morrison Technical, clocked a fast 7.08 seconds to capture the Women's 60 metres, competing for the University of Alabama.

Dezerea Bryant competing for host team, the University of Kentucky, finished second on 7.18 seconds, with Shayla Sanders of the Florida was third in 7.25 seconds.

McLeod, the former Manchester High and Kingston College hurdler continued his impressive form on the Men's 60 metres Hurdles as the University of Arkansas Sophomore blazed to a quick 7.49 seconds, as Joshua Thompson of Louisiana State University (LSU) finished second in 7.73 seconds. Former Wolmers Boys hurdker, Yanick Hart, competing for University of Florida was fifth in 7.84 seconds.

Two other Jamaicans were finalists in their events.

Former St Jago High hurdler, Samantha Scarlett, competing for the University of Auburn finished fourth in Women's 60 metres hurdles in a season best 8.20 seconds. Daeshon Gordon who represented Jamaica at the World Junior Championships this past summer was fifth in a personal best 8.20 seconds for the Louisiana State University (LSU).
