Illegal firearms and ammunition seized in Manchester

With a total of six illegal firearms and about 2,089 rounds of ammunition seized by the Manchester police between January 1 and March 2 of this year, ballistic reports have revealed that two of these guns were used in the December murder of Constable Orville Preddie.

According to police reports, six men from the Greenvale community in the parish were arrested subsequent to the seizure of these two firearms as they were found with the weapons in their possessions and are in custody pending further investigations.

A total of 16 persons have so far been arrested for the period on firearms and ammunition charges; four motor vehicles have also been seized.

The latest seizure occurred on Monday about 12:30 a.m. along the Grove Place main Road in Mandeville.

It is reported that during this incident, a team of police conducting operations in the area spotted a silver Mitsubishi car with four men aboard and signalled them to stop. The driver failed to stop and subsequently crashed. The men were apprehended and two plastic buckets containing 2,050 rounds of assorted ammunition were found in their possession. These individuals who were arrested are expected to be charged under the Anti-Gang Legislation.
