Escapee to be sentenced on March 27

A man who escaped from the Spanish Town police lock-up almost two years is to be sentenced on March 27, 2015.

He is Bryan Haughton, 27-year-old unemployed of Fraziers Content district in St Catherine, who appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrae's Court on Monday.

When the matter came up before Resident Magistrate Simone Maddix, Haughton pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of property and escaping custody. The RM ordered that he be remanded while his police record be produced.

It was outlined in court that on April 13, 2013 at about 2:15 a.m., Haughton, along with other inmates, cut the grill at the lock-up and escaped.

Haughton was recaptured by the police on February 18, 2015, and placed back in custody.

The accused was facing a charge of robbery with aggravation when he cut his way to freedom.
