Senior Tax Admin Officer arrested for fraud

Senior Tax Administration Officer, Fernando Davis, 51, was on Monday charged with ten counts of conspiracy, uttering forged documents and breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

Davis was among three men arrested last Friday during a Major Organised Crime and Anti-corruption agency (MOCA)-led operation assisted by members of the JCF Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, who carried out simultaneous operations at premises in Kingston and St Thomas.

These operations were another phase in the multi-agency probe into irregularities into the process by which persons are granted driver's licenses and other documents. In several of the cases examined, the correct procedures in granting a driver's license were not adhered to, and the licenses were approved under questionable circumstances.

Davis is scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court today.

One of the other men was released after being questioned. The third man, who was found with dozens of rounds of ammunition, was charged with breaches of the Firearms Act and will face the court tomorrow.

MOCA wishes to remind members of the public who may have any information that could assist in any investigation to call 275-5903 or 906-6318 or 1-800-CORRUPT or email moca@jcf.gov.jm.
