Sunderland hold Hull at KC Stadium

HULL, England (AP):

Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell scored an equaliser after triggering a red card for his manager in a feisty 1-1 draw at Hull in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Sunderland's Gus Poyet was sent to the stands and Hull's Steve Bruce had to be restrained by the fourth official as he tried to confront the Uruguayan after the two managers exchanged words following a controversial booking in the first half.

Rodwell was yellow-carded for diving after the midfielder was put clean through and then went down under a challenge. Hull's deadline-day signing Dame N'Doye scored a stylish goal in the 15th minute, backheeling the ball into the net from Tom Huddlestone's cross.

But Rodwell grabbed the equaliser in the 77th, helping the ball in after a clever chip by Patrick van Aanholt.
