Digicel/Appleton Carnival rocks Mandeville Pon di Road

Scenes during the Digicel/Appleton Carnival Pon di Road roadshow at Madeville Square in Manchester, last Friday.

Following huge turnouts at stops in St Ann, Trelawny and most recently, Mandeville, the Digicel/Appleton Carnival 'Pon di Road' roadshow heads to Linstead today to deliver the same high energy and non-stop fêting.

On its stop in Mandeville, hundreds of patrons braved early showers with their umbrellas to come out for the much-talked- about party that made its way to Mandeville Square.

Hosted by a very animated ZJ Sparks, patrons got the chance to win giveaways from both Appleton and Digicel, through a number of activities, from push-up competitions to poetry recitals and dance-offs. DJ Kurt Riley kept the crowd on a high with an energetic mix of soca and dancehall, pulling from every genre in between, much to the delight of the crowd.

The party climbed to another level at 11 p.m. when the crowd was introduced to a seemingly endless supply of coloured powder, which incited an exhilarating bout of fêting.

"This Carnival party here loud!" said Omar Morrison, a construction worker from Ingleside.

"I was coming from work when I saw the crowd and decided to see what was going on. Honestly, I don't regret coming over here at all, not even when the rain started. Mi never know say a so Carnival nice!"

Another patron, Ann-Marie McLean, shared, "I honestly have to say that I love the vibes at this event, 'cause Digicel and Appleton bring the party come to Mandeville and we get to have fun with people that we know right here in our town."

"Being able to take Carnival to our customers all over Jamaica has been an amazing experience," said Kamal Powell, senior sponsorship and development manager at Digicel.

"We have really enjoyed the opportunity to come out and interact with our customers and, so far, the vibes at these events have been phenomenal. We're looking forward to the next stop in Linstead."

Tamika West, marketing manager for Dark Spirits at J Wray & Nephew Limited, is pleased with Appleton Special's grassroots soca excursion with Digicel:

"Jamaicans all over the island love the Carnival season, but in the past, very few town centres were able to experience soca fêtes in their purest form. This is why Appleton Special teamed up with Digicel to stage Carnival Pon Di Road.

"Carnival Pon Di Road allows us to take the Carnival spirit across Jamaica and we are thrilled for the thousands of partygoers that we have touched with these free admission fêtes. Another great element for our attendees are our exclusive Carnival Pon Di Road product bundle deals which allow patrons to purchase two 200ml (Q) bottles of Appleton Special for J$1000 and receive J$100 Digicel credit free, as well as a range of discounts on Digicel double-bubble top-ups and phone hardware."
