A man who is believed to be of unsound mind, accused of stabbing a police constable and an eight-year-old boy in downtown Kingston recently, was further remanded in custody when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Charged with two counts of unlawful wounding is Kirk Reid.

The Crown led evidence that on March 18, the child, on his way home from school, was allegedly attacked and stabbed by the accused man. It is believed that the police officer in the matter was nearby when he went to the aid of the child, making an attempt to detain the accused man when it is believed that he was also stabbed by the accused.

Reid was later arrested and taken to the Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

In court, a dishevelled Reid appeared in a grey shirt that appeared to be soiled.

Subsequently, Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams ordered Reid to return to court on April 20, pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Following the sitting magistrate's ruling, Reid made an incoherent utterance as he was being ushered to the holding area by police personnel.

"You'll soon understand friend," RM Shelly Williams concluded, directing her remark to the accused.
