Nineteen-year-old charged for tearing cop's shirt

A man accused of tearing the $2,000 shirt of a policeman was ordered to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on June 3 for sentencing.

Nineteen-year-old Kemar Henry is charged with malicious destruction of property and common assault. He pleaded guilty with explanation.

The Crown alleges that the accused grabbed the school uniform of the policeman's daughter in the vicinity of her buttocks and pulled her off the bus. The policeman, dressed in plain clothes, did not approve of Henry's action and told him so.

An altercation subsequently developed between the two which reportedly resulted in the policeman being hit in the face. He reportedly retaliated.

Henry, when cautioned by the police who were present on the scene, reportedly told them, "offica, mi neva touch her no way. Is her bag mi pull and the man rush mi so mi defend mi self. Him never show mi nuh ID".

He was ordered to return to court by Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece in early June.
