Schoolgirl shot and hospitalised

Andre' Williams, STAR Writer

A 15-year-old schoolboy is now reportedly in custody following a shooting incident Tuesday in Portmore, St Catherine, in which a 14-year-old schoolgirl was shot and hospitalised.

Initial reports reaching THE WEEKEND STAR were that the teen was shot during a confrontation allegedly between two men, and that the student was in the company of her friends when an armed man gave chase after another.

A senior policeman has since said charges are to be laid against the individuals who filed false reports surrounding the incident.

THE WEEKEND STAR gathered that the schoolgirl was rushed to hospital following the shooting.

A source close to the investigations said that information suggests the students were playing with the firearm, when it went off.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the incident occurred in the vicinity of the Greater Portmore Post Office.

THE WEEKEND STAR was told that the teen is still in critical condition.

The St Catherine South police are investigating.
