Champs needs a bigger stadium

What a way boys and girls' Champs did tun up loud?!

Mi seh di way di stadium pack from bow to stern, there was a great possibility seh yuh would a end up siddung beside all yuh enemy! The supporters came out in their thousands, and it was a great show of support for the young athletes.

It was a joy to see students from 'country' and 'town' school a battle pon di track and field fi show dem dominance!

When mi a watch and see how di crowd a 'rail up' fi dem school, mi feel good fi know seh dem train and work so hard to get to this point. Me a one woman who always haffi highlight and acknowledge hard work, because it is the key to success!

Mi want fi congratulate all teams that participated, and to all the coaching staff, the parents and spectators, big up unnu self! Di worl know seh a Fortis fi life me seh, and mi want big up the young men from North Street who fought a good fight and narrowed the wide gap in the end! And fi all di haters dem, we never lose, we came second!!! A baaaayy! Wooiiee, mi bady!

When mi look pon di style and fashion dem a Champs, mi haffi shake mi head and seh maybe dem need a fashion segment, cause di pickney dem go well hard! Haffi commend the Holmwood girls for their creative hairstyles, which we look forward to as a staple on the Champs scene.

Di issue wid Champs yah now a seh it a grow, and the stadium naa grow! If di ticket dem hard fi get fi Champs one more time, mi woulda prefer go uppa di embassy go beg a visa, and mi sure mi woulda get it! Who no sleep a stadium overnight, to who haffi join long line like a one extra life yuh ago buy, to who fah bra tear off because dem a fight fi get ticket; lawd Jesus, it was a task and a half!

This needs to be remedied post haste! People a fly down from farin and from all over the world fi come Champs, and it shouldn't be that tickets are so hard to access and no space no deh inna di stadium. As the athletic mecca of the world, it's time we seriously look to see how we can expand and improve the stadium and it's capacity. Champs is not a hurry-come-up event, and by the looks of things, the demand gets bigger every year.

Let us not wait until something catastrophic happens or people get frustrated and turned off by the hassle it takes to get a ticket and get in to lend their support! Some a di farin money dem weh a use fi research all kinda tings weh naa yield nutten, mek we tek di funds and expand stadium so our young athletes can showcase dem talent in peace and we can come watch without haffi a bruk we neck and nails!

Congrats to Calabar and Edwin Allen high schools on their win, and I wish each and every participant all the best.

Yuh may not win everytime, but there is a lesson even in losing, and there is always the chance to wheel and come again and do it even bigger, better and more extraordinary next time ... just ask Micheal O'Hara bout it!!! Lalalalalalalalalala!
