Barbarism a tek ova we country!

When mi look and see how Jamaica blessed and think about di whole heap a tings for which we should be grateful me heart bleed when me see how barbarism a tek ova we country!

The Bible seh di heart of man wax cold and sadly it come in like nuff people a walk roun' wid deep freeze inna dem chest! It's like there's a competition a gwaan fi see how can mek di 12 'o clock and 7' o clock news and who can mek the front page of the STAR! The level of crime and criminality is appalling and saddening! Man, woman and pickney are being murdered in a way and at a rate weh people outside (and inside) mussi a wonda if a civil war or ethnic cleansing we gwaan wid a Jamaica!

Jesus Christ thou son of David yuh mean fi tell mi seh four persons including three young men under 15 years old just gone so?! A wah do dah place yah?!

This high crime society in which we live is sucking out the life blood of the present and the future! The way tings a gwaan the island soon overrun wid cemetery and psychiatric ward! Bellevue naa go can manage di number of people who will be suffering from trauma due to the rampant and frequent murders taking place! When me a read weh one a di likkle bwoy mother seh happen mi cry like a baby! When mi look pon the palpable pain pon the lady dem face mi heart sink! I'm angered when mi tink about how as a people we have allowed the scourge of crime to take root and has become commonplace.

So many times just when mi tink we ago get up and rise up as a people and nation and seh enough is enough we drop the ball and retreat. Everything is a nine-day talk and then it's back to business as usual! All now mi no see no road march or road block wid placards a seh "WE WANT JUSTICE"!

Mi naa advocate or incite nobody fi go break the law but mi see road block fi less than the killing weh happen a Monymusk! Bet seh if a police did shoot or even a stray shot kill dem all now the place under seige?!!

Where is the church? Where are the human rights people dem? Where are the people in the community? Where are the right-thinking Jamaicans? Where is the Government and Opposition? Where are the mothers and fathers? Where is the consciousness that we can't gwaan so?!

condolences

I send my empathy, condolences and prayers to the family and friends who lost their loved ones in such a brutal way. The "Monymusk Massacre" is yet another indictment on the state of decay in Jamaica. Mi used to wonder why the slaves allowed themselves for centuries to be enslaved by white masters who they outnumbered and who they could overpower. I have since rationalised it and the frequency of crime, the acceptance and condoning of criminality, the paralysis of the masses in Jamaica today has further concretised my rationale. Di amount a people weh a get killed yuh can't even get fi grieve dem in peace because as yuh start grieve fi one a next one dead and so goes the vicious cycle in a land where we sell to people "Everything Irie!"

Crime and criminality need to be sorted from the root! Not just the symptoms but the causes. It will take the collective effort of all of us...those home and abroad and some deep prayer to let civility and the respect for human life to once again become the way of life!
