Treasure Beach's hometown hero Joseth Bromfield easily won the 20th Jakes Off-Road Triathlon individual male title on Saturday. It was his 11th success in 14 starts. Bromfield toyed with the field and pulled away for a comfortable victory in 1:23.02. Beaten into second place was Bobby Barnes, who crossed the tape in 1:27.04, while Phillip McCatty took third in 1:29.03.

Bromfield, who was the favourite coming into the event, told STAR Sports he was delighted with the effort, adding that his win was as a result of a disciplined training regimen.

"I am very familiar with the course, which offered a few challenges, but I always had enough to win here," he said.

Bromfield said his next big challenge will be the MoBay City Run in May, as well as the Tobago International Triathlon.

"This victory sets me up perfectly, as I prepare for the MoBay City Run and the Tobago International Triathlon later this year. It was executed well and I am proud of this achievement."

American Emily Smith copped the female individual first-place win in 1:38.02. Second place went to Laura Cousineau, 1:47.01. Ina Daley finished third in 1:50.02.

The overall team title went to the Montego Bay-based Secrets Powerhouse trio of Sheldon Williams (swim), Jermaine Thompson (run) and national road race cyclist Oshane Williams.

The trio came into the event as defending team champions and was entering for a fifth successive year, winning four times.

Approximately 115 triathletes took part in the event, with participants coming from as far away as USA and Canada.

Tru-Juice took home the corporate winner's prize, while 10-year-old Sandy Bank Primary student, Naheela Foster, secured top spot in the children's race.
