Regional duties help Frew stand out at home

LIVINGSTON SCOTT, STAR Writer

St Elizabeth Technical and West Indies Under-19 pace bowler, Micheal Frew, said his experience at the regional level helped him put in an outstanding performance during the recent Spalding Cup final.

Frew took 12 wickets for 48 runs over two innings. The powerfully built pacer grabbed five for 15 in the first innings and seven for 33 against a Campion batting attack that just could not cope with the young West Indian player's bowling pace.

Frew said Campion College players were inexperienced, which made them easy pickings.

"At the West Indies under-19s, the training level is a bit higher so I just came here and just used my experience against these weaker guys and it worked," he said.

Frew who spent most of the season away on camp with the regional young team, said despite missing a great part of the tournament he was pleased with his contribution and to continue St Elizabeth Technical's winning tradition in cricket.

"It has been a pleasure to play for St Elizabeth Technical and to carry on the tradition left by my former teammates, it's always a great feeling," he added.

Frew also has his sights set on breaking into the senior national side but his intention is to continue to maintain a high level of performance, which he hopes will force the selectors to take notice.

"My goal is to perform well and do good at all time, it's up to the selectors (to select me). I just try to do my best every time and I hope my best will be good enough for them to look at and select me," he said.
