Policy changes at Waterhouse after missed CFU Championships

LIVINGSTON SCOTT, STAR Writer

WATERHOUSE president, Ricky Chin, who has come under immense pressure for the team's failure to travel to Trinidad and Tobago for their Group Two Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship qualifiers has blamed the fiasco on the lack of support from Government and private sector.

Chin has sworn that there will never be a recurrence. He said it is now the club's policy to make early preparations once they have secured qualification to the annual regional club tournament.

"It still hurt. The CFU was looking forward to us because they thought we were extremely good representatives on our first occasion and we were looking to return.

Chin said the benefits from last season's participation were 'priceless' and everyone was looking to doing even doing better.

He noted that 150 million homes in CONCACAF have Fox Soccer Channel, which shows the matches.

"When Romario Campbell scored against Tauro in Panama I got a message on Facebook from someone in Serbia," he said.

Do interviews

"I have seen several camera crews come into Waterhouse from CONCACAF to film the area and to do interviews," he said.

"The level of exposure my club got you cannot put monetary value to it."

"It's now a policy of the club that when we will play CONCACAF Champions League and CFU Club Championship, that is going to be an item that we know that at the top of the year we need to find funds put down."

He noted that on most of his travels to the regional championship, he noticed opposing clubs received strong support from national associations, government, and even private sector.

"We are going to these countries to play these teams who are getting support .

"What burns me that there is no other sporting body that had the success of Waterhouse last year, but we got no support from any government entity and there are marketing opportunities there if they come with us," he stated.
