Rodman wins Sligoville cycle race

VETERAN national cyclist, Marloe Rodman, was in superb class; virtually miles ahead of the rest, as he superbly rode to what seemed an effortless win at the inaugural Sligoville Time Trial Challenge in St Catherine yesterday, courtesy of a scintillating 25 minutes and 58:51 seconds.

Vying to represent the country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Rodman made light work of the hilly terrain, local rivals, and showed readiness for those challenges ahead.

"The race was good; I tried to have control coming up. Going uphill is always hard, so you just have to do your best. I did my best and feel happy with the win," Rodman told STAR Sports.

The race/route distance spanned 8.7 kilometres, from the base of the Sligoville main road, and climaxed at the top of the hill adjacent the Sligovoille Multi-purpose Sports Complex. It is over five miles.

In the female class, lone women's finisher, triathlon athlete Ina Daley was happy with her performance.

"First time doing it; it was very challenging, and probably is one of the hardest climbs in Jamaica, but I made sure I raced in my limit and finished strong," she said.

Previously, she finished third in the Jakes off-road triathlon, and won the Kingston city 10 k.

Junior winner André Jackson said he was happy with his win, despite not being fully fit.

"I feel really good to finish on top, as I had a little injury. I could have done a little better if I was fully fit," he noted.
