Penochle's 'Watch The Ride' fresh on the scene

Penochle, the artiste who hails from Steer Town, St Ann, is emerging on to the scene with his single, 'Watch The Ride'. He explained that the name for this single was inspired by his upbringing. "Growing up as a child, walking In the streets of St Ann, you would always hear to 'watch the ride', meaning 'be cautious, keep your eyes open and be careful in the streets'," he said.

The conscious singer draws influence from the likes of Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Luciano, Chronixx and Anthony B. He believes he was chosen by music.

"Music chose me, it was a calling and a destiny. As a man seeks oranges but finds himself with mangoes, this wasn't planned, but essentially became as it is now and blossomed."

He further explained that he does music "in order to bring the news of social issues and create upliftment, open the eyes of the people, inform and educate in the society he grew up in".

Penochle also sees himself as being similar to the essence of water in the mountains, the higher up, the lower it flows. He hopes his music will inspire persons of all classes in society. He hopes his music will make a difference in Jamaica.
