Craft vendor arrested for fraud

The Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch (C-TOC) continues to clamp down on alleged fraudsters with the arrest and charge of a man on Wednesday.

Charged with conspiracy to defraud and three counts of obtaining money by means of forged document is 54-year-old Claude Chamberlain, a craft vendor of Martha Brae district, Falmouth, Trelawny.

Reports are that in March 2015, a representative of a company reported to the Fraud Squad that numerous fraudulent cheques for more than J$2 million were drawn against the company's account.

Investigations revealed that the money obtained from the cheques was deposited to an account that Chamberlain had access to and subsequently withdrew funds from. He was apprehended and charged.

He is scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday, June 11, 2015.
