man accused of robbing $250 remanded |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A St Catherine male who robbed a man of $250 was remanded when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. He is Shaka Douglas, 23-year-old unemployed, of Hellshire Beach in Portmore. When Douglas appeared in court he begged Resident Magistrate Natalee Brooks for a "chance". He explained that it was just $250 and it was not a serious offence. pleaded guilty He eventually pleaded guilty and explained that the complainant was being chased by others when the money fell and he took it. The court heard that on March 23, 2015, about noon, the complainant who rents horses to beach goers was at the Hellshire Beach, when Douglas attacked him with a machete and demanded his money after slapping him repeatedly. His demands were spurned by the complainant and he allegedly pushed his hand in his pants pocket and took out the money. A report was made to the police and Douglas was later held and positively identified by the complainant as the man who robbed him. He was subsequently charged with robbery by violence and assault occasioning bodily harm. |
